fine art photographer based in Bochum, Germany. His work explores the experience of time through the medium of photography. With a background as a foley editor and musician, he examines the fragile moments of silence between sounds\u2014the pauses between actions. Using his camera, Karlson strives to create the quietest photography possible, driven by a deep passion for color and light.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Since 2015, his work has been exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe and the U.S. His photographs have also been published in both print and online media. In 2016, he released his first book, followed by a magazine titled <i>Eyes Like Slumber<\/i>, available at the festival and online for \u20ac25.<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"p3\"><b>About the Exhibition<\/b><b><\/b><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\">In November and December 2018, I had the opportunity to participate in the Listhus Artist Residency program in \u00d3lafsfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Iceland. I always asked myself how I can control this process and how I can recreate a random coincidence. So I started to keep record and studied how 35mm film reacts in different conditions over many stages of development, that lasted sometimes over several years. The material is the 35mm film, the composition of the cocktail and the development process. Together they react very differently in different conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The selection of the material is the starting point of my work, the process is in the center of it, as the process is the symbiose of material, chemistry, time, temperature and all the small details that influence the image in its development process.<\/p>\n<p>The main exhibit, \u201cLightbox\u201d, shows 48 originals of a E6 35mm film, cooked with \u201cBerliner Wei\u00dfe\u201d (original Berlin style beer). After a resting phase of 3 months the film was developed in classical fashion and partly further treated and lightened with chlorine bleach.<\/p>\n<p>The two big exhibits show a similar experiment but with C41 film. The film was lightly cooked in \u201cBerliner Wei\u00dfe\u201d beer for 5 minutes and after a 6 hour resting phase developed straight away. The whole series with Berliner Wei\u00dfe consists of an 18 month study with over 60 35mm films. Instead of silver grains \u2013 as in the classical black\/white-photography \u2013 one develops very stable pigments in prussian blue (or berlin blue). Also: one only needs water for the fixation and the chemicals are in most concentrations nontoxic for the environment and yourself. So you can completely focus on the artistic process.<\/p>\n<p>In 3 exciting hours you will learn this creative technique and will print your own photos on different papers. Once printed the pictures can be toned with coffee or tea.
