Whether analogue or digital, there is hardly anyone on earth who does not take pictures nearly every day.<\/p>\n<p>If we stick to the classic story of the origins of photography, it was invented in France almost 200 years ago. Once it became presentable, it began its unprecedented triumphal march around the world. Photography with a camera obscura may be a far cry from the digital images of our smartphones, but both techniques have their roots in the same process: light passes through a lens and creates an image inside the camera.<\/p>\n<p>What is the state of analogue photography today, almost two centuries after its invention? Why has it survived when digital photography is so smart and simple? How has it shaped the planet and our view of it? What role does it play in environmental pollution and the extraction of raw materials? It also fosters social inclusion by providing a supportive environment for professional reintegration. A graduate in sound engineering from the Universidad Austral de Chile, he then specialized in analogue portrait photography and large formats. Since 2020, he has been combining social work and culture to develop process-oriented formats that promote diversity and decolonial thinking in the community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Analogue photography doesn&#8217;t have to be an expensive hobby. Drawing on real-world examples,\u00a0Correa-Costa examines how analogue photography can serve as a catalyst to empower people and spark deep social dialogue between individuals and their surroundings. In this talk, he explores how the appropriate use of existing resources\u2014such as artist residencies and public funding\u2014can help shape meaningful processes through analogue photography. Additionally, he invites reflection on ways to promote a multi-perspective and experimental approach to storytelling, aiming to include diverse voices in the artistic practice of analogue photography. Coming from a queer-feminist perspective, they examine how images shape who is seen as a \u201clegal subject\u201d and who is marked as an outsider, reinforcing structures like racism, patriarchy, and colonial violence. Rather than rejecting photography altogether, they ask how we can recognize its complicity in violence and still imagine new visual practices rooted in care, resistance, and solidarity. What would it mean to create images that break with carceral logics and instead build collective strength?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">QAD is a self organized, intersectional queer-feminist collective centered around FLINTA* and BIPOC communities. While spaces surrounding analogue photography can be very white, cisgendered-male and heteronormative, QAD opens a space for those who otherwise struggle to have access to knowledge around (analogue) photography, due to different discriminatory experiences and marginalization.
