Gil Corujeira, Mármore

The work depicts the moment directly after the impact, the dizziness and the loss of balance. The few seconds of reconsideration. The split second in which one can react is now undermined by clouded judgment, and while the pain subsides, the mind tells one to run away. The work is not to be taken literally, but as a metaphor for any conflict, challenge or threat we face. The title Mármore (Marble) refers to the idea of the unpolished gemstone, the raw, unpolished element that must first be polished and chiseled in order to be of value.
