ABOUT US

Founded in 2013, analogueNOW is a Berlin-based non-profit organization bringing together artists, photographers, curators, educators, and photo enthusiasts to promote analog photography. Focused on community and exchange, analogueNOW organizes a wide range of cultural events throughout the year. Conceived as a creative and collaborative platform, its program centers on three main goals:

Supporting emerging and mid-career artists working with analog photography through exhibitions, artist talks, and “Show & Tell” events.
Introducing diverse audiences to analog processes through workshops designed for both young people and adults, from newcomers to advanced amateurs.
Connecting the many actors—photo labs, artist collectives, institutions, and more—that make up Berlin’s analog photography scene, while also developing international partnerships.

Wolf Konrad-von Appen

Wolf first stood in a darkroom around 1978. Since then, he has been fascinated by analog photography—even after extensively working with digital imaging processes during his career. For him, the challenge of analog photography lies in understanding its physical and chemical processes and consciously applying its creative possibilities. Preserving and passing on this knowledge is the initial mission of analogueNOW, supported by the non-profit organization Click e.V., to which Wolf feels particularly committed.

Thomas Ming-Hui Stanka

Thomas Ming-Hui Stanka is an art historian and curator specializing in photography. Professionally Thomas works for the Berlin auction house Grisebach, where his focus is on prints and editions. His approach to photography was shaped through theoretical engagement with photography as a medium and its periphery. Gottfried Jäger, Vilem Flusser, and Alexander Rodchenko are sources of inspiration for him, both visually and through their writings. In analogueNOW projects, Thomas works on exhibition concepts, graphic design, and social media. Thomas’s guilty pleasure is Rodinal stand development.

Celine Pilch

Céline Pilch is an artist and educator with a degree in media studies. The magic of a homemade pinhole camera led her to analog photography in 2016. Her practice is based on experimentation and discovering beauty in the unexpected. She is particularly interested in low-tech processes and the transformative effects of UV light on chemical reactions. Through workshops and seminars, she shares her insights and experiments with both young people and adults, encouraging them to reflect on the possibilities of photography.

Rüdiger Schestag

Rüdiger Schestag has been working as a people photographer for many years. After a long time in the industry and 12 years as a lecturer, he rediscovered analog photography.
In his creative, free work he essentially photographs people on film material and on glass plates (wet collodion process from 1851). It enables the production of unique pieces using the simplest photographic technology (wooden camera and lenses without any shuttermechanics).

Urizen Freaza

Urizen Freaza was born in Tenerife in 1982 and is since 2010 based in Berlin. He’s a self-taught photographer and film-maker. Self-taught meaning that this is a path he’s still walking, while hoping there is always more path to walk.
