Mihai Barabancea

PHOTOWEEKEND 2023 – SATELLITE EXHIBITION

The Analog Art Photography Gallery (AAP), presents a selection of works by Mihai Barabancea in the Redah space.

Mihai Barabancea photographs life in the streets and back alleys of his home city of Bucharest. His photographs are situated in a field of tension between reportage and voyeurism and tell of the rapid social changes in Romania and the Eastern Balkans in stark contrasts.

Barabancea’s protagonists are night owls, daydreamers, winners and losers. His works reflect how artificial social stereotypes influence society and how reductive narratives shape today’s culture. Barabancea seeks to challenge the status quo and ridicule the notion of a shallow flowing normality through his images of the absurd and grotesque.

Barabancea finds his audience through the publication of his photographs in photo books. His work can now be seen for the first time in an exhibition in Germany.

Formerly known as Fotoklub Kollektiv, Redah offers a darkroom, fine art inkjet printing and a gallery space.
