Double exposure is a photographic practice in its own right. It is a creative technique that combines two images to create a new one: often unexpected, poetic, or surreal. In this workshop, we will explore the basic theory, the main techniques, and the practical use of this approach, balancing technical precision with creative freedom. The practical work will involve exposing the same roll of film twice in the camera. This method allows everyone to take part, even without a camera that has a built-in double-exposure mode. A camera with manual film rewind is recommended, rather than one that rewinds the film automatically. The workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as experienced photographers who are interested in learning new techniques.
PROGRAM:
- Introduction & Theory (25min)
- Fundamental Techniques explanation (20 min)
- Collective Practice (1h):
Landscapes & Backgrounds during a photowalk - Collective Practice (1h):
Portraits outside or in studio. - Drop off the film rolls & questions (15min)
After the workshop, the films are developed, scanned, and sent to all participants.
This workshop is kindly sponsored by Lomography, who provides films and cameras. Bring your own camera or borrow one from us!
