Open Call: “Under the Rug”

What is analogue photography in 2025? This year, analogueNOW wants to closely examine the state of analogue photography today, why and how it has survived digital photography, the contemporary forms it is taking, how it is (regularly) reinventing itself and what real impact it has on the environment. We will investigate aspects of the analogue world that are sometimes somewhat overlooked.

Let’s look behind the scenes and under the carpet for an update on dusty stories and toxic processes.

We want to incorporate this curiosity into the theme of this year’s exhibition and invite artists to submit works that explore the hidden, overlooked, and suppressed. This year’s open call, “Under the Rug,” calls for images that delve into what society, individuals, or institutions choose to hide—whether it’s secrets, personal truths, cultural taboos, or forgotten stories.

This open call is an opportunity to visually examine the layers beneath the surface, revealing what is often ignored or intentionally concealed. Works can be interpretative or documentary, intimate or expansive, but must utilize at least one analogue technique, including film photography, darkroom processes, or other hands-on methods.

Let us uncover the unseen and bring it to light—tell us what’s been swept under the rug.
