With a new location <span class=\"s1\">comes<\/span> a new concept. More than ever, PhotoWeekend <span class=\"s1\">brings together<\/span> the contemporary Berlin analog scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The main venue <span class=\"s1\">is<\/span> the church of the Ev. Kirchengemeinde Genezareth on Herrfurthplatz. Those familiar with it <span class=\"s1\">know<\/span> that the church and the Startbahn e.V. <span class=\"s1\">serve as<\/span> an important cultural center in Schillerkiez, <span class=\"s1\">offering<\/span> their spaces to many creators. For PhotoWeekend, the church <span class=\"s1\">transforms<\/span> into an oasis for analog photography, with most of the program <span class=\"s1\">taking place<\/span>there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The program <span class=\"s1\">features<\/span> a diverse range of activities celebrating analog photography. A central group exhibition <span class=\"s1\">showcases<\/span> work from emerging and established artists, while satellite exhibitions <span class=\"s1\">spread<\/span> throughout the neighborhood, organized in collaboration with various collectives and labs. Workshops <span class=\"s1\">offer<\/span> hands-on experiences with different analog processes, allowing participants to experiment and learn from experts. Additionally, portfolio reviews <span class=\"s1\">provide<\/span>photographers with valuable feedback and networking opportunities, making PhotoWeekend not just an exhibition but a dynamic space for She wrote her artistic doctoral thesis in 2023 for Aalto University, Department of Film, about the temporal aspects of landscape between photography and cinema. She is the president and one of the founding members of the Finnish Darkroom Association and the director of the Symposium for Artistic Research in Analog Photography for <a href=\"https:\/\/helsinkidarkroomfestival.com\/\">Helsinki Darkroom Festival<\/a>. She teaches darkroom courses regularly for the association as well as for the Aalto University Department of Media. She&#8217;s a PhD candidate at the Institute of Art in Warsaw and holds a Master degree of Gender Studies from Humboldt Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-heading\">\n<p>Since 2015, she has been the director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vintagephotofestival.com\/\">Vintage Photo Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-heading\">\n<p>Her focus is on photographic archives, analog photography, and herstory. She is a co-author of several books on forgotten female photographers, including the most recent one titled &#8220;A World History of Women Photographers,&#8221; published by Thames &#038; Hudson in That\u2019s why I load the cassettes of my beloved DDR-Mentor large format camera directly with photo paper. This is how I photograph my artistic series, and this is what I will show you at this workshop. In the practical part, each of you will produce your own so-called paper negatives with the large format camera. No paper is<br \/>\nbought new. It comes to me from various sources. Instead of silver grains \u2013 as in the classical black\/white-photography \u2013 one develops very stable pigments in prussian blue (or berlin blue). In this year\u2019s film workshop we grab a mechanical Bolex, the camera that has been known worldwide for decades and to this day as a small Swiss army knife by avant-garde filmmakers, as well as by students and passionate amateurs to adventurers far away from civilization. It is so well known because it offers far more possibilities than just filming. Using Dadaist approaches to poetry production, we will come up with ideas for a small short film, which we will then shoot and later develop. We will try to figure out and apply all the little tricks and possibilities of the camera from multiple exposures to time lapse and stretching to double shots and much more. The workshop focuses on experimenting with the camera, exploring its possibilities and those of the medium of film, tricking and playing. And when the film has dried after developing, there is a small screening. The workshop is aimed at beginners as well as advanced users.
