Our Photo Weekend is back!

Berlin becomes the meeting point for analogue photography this spring as analogueNOW returns from 8.–10. Mai 2026, bringing together photographers, collectives, and photography enthusiasts from Berlin and across Europe to connect, learn, and explore analogue photography together.

We invite you to actively engage with analogue photography. Seeing, discussing, and doing are the core pillars of our program, which offers a wide range of ways to participate.

A group exhibition, workshops, conferences, show-and-tell sessions, artist talks, photowalks, and more are all waiting for you. analogueNOW 2026 has something for everyone!

EIN WOCHENENDE, ZWEI ORTE

Nirgendwo (Helsingforser Str. 10, 10243 Berlin) ist ein Kulturzentrum, das sich der Umwelt- und Nachhaltigkeitsbildung widmet. Es dient als lebendiges Herzstück der diesjährigen Ausgabe von workshops, Präsentationen, und Vorträgen. analogueNOW 2025’s Programm, das sich an ein breites Publikum richtet, findet sowohl im großen Saal als auch im Garten und auf der Terrasse statt.

Fotogalerie Friedrichshain (Helsingforser Pl. 1, 10243 Berlin), 1985 gegründet, ist die älteste Galerie, die sich in der ehemaligen DDR der Fotografie widmet. Sie wird vom gemeinnützigen Verein Kulturring betrieben und bietet ein abwechslungsreiches Programm an Solo- und Gruppenausstellungen sowie die Entwicklung von Bildungsprogrammen, die die Gemeinschaft einbinden. Sie fördert auch soziale Integration, indem sie ein unterstützendes Umfeld für die berufliche Wiedereingliederung schafft. In diesem Mai ist die Galerie Heimat unserer Gruppenausstellung.

Analogue photography is rooted in experimentation, trial-and-error processes, and often uncertain outcomes, thus enabling spaces that resist contemporary demands for productivity, efficiency, and overachievement. By carving room for doubt, the exhibition platforms humble approaches to one’s artistic practice and to the world. Room for Doubt refers to the spaces—mental, emotional, physical, or social—where certainty gives way to questioning. Departing from the saying “seeing is believing”, we also invite photographers whose work encourages critical thinking and makes us question our assumptions and beliefs.

Room for doubt welcomes projects that embrace uncertainty as a fertile, creative ground, and doubt as a necessary tool for learning how to see the world differently.

For this year’s edition, we’ve invited only Berlin-based schools and collectives to take part in the exhibition. By focusing on the local scene, we aim to strengthen connections within the analogue photography community and bridge gaps between professionals, amateurs, and students.

Participating organizations include Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie, Lette Verein, Stattlab, and Fotografie Berlin e.V.

SHOW & TELL

Unsere Show & Tell Format ist ein dynamisches Treffen, bei dem analoge Fotograf:innen und Künstler:innen zusammenkommen, um ihre Projekte einem engagierten Publikum vorzustellen. Jeder Teilnehmer:in hat etwa 20 Minuten ihre Arbeiten zu präsentieren - sei es in Form von auf einem Tisch ausgelegten Abzügen, einem selbst herausgegebenen Fanzine, einem sorgfältig gestalteten Fotobuch oder an die Wand projizierten Bildern.

Mehr als nur eine Präsentation, ein Show & Tell ist eine Gelegenheit zum Dialog. Nach jeder Sitzung gibt es Zeit für Diskussionen, Feedback und Austausch, so dass Künstler:innen und Teilnehmer:innen miteinander in Kontakt treten, reflektieren und sich gegenseitig inspirieren können. Ob Sie ein Künstler:in sind, der seine Vision mit anderen teilen möchte, oder ein/e Besucher:in, der sich mit zeitgenössischer analoger Fotografie auseinandersetzen möchte, unsere Show & Tell Sitzungen fördern einen offenen und interaktiven Raum für kreative Erkundungen.

A brief introduction to solar motion and solarigraphy, an art-science hybrid technique that creates long-exposure images tracking the sun’s path across the sky over weeks or months. Utilizing homemade pinhole cameras and photographic paper, this method captures the sun’s changing declination while blurring stationary objects.

PIN-ANIMA

“PIN-ANIMA” is a series of experiments with multi-lens cameras, inspired by the work of 19th-century pioneers of chronophotography: Eadweard Muybridge and Étienne-Jules Marey. These primitive devices produce photographs that serve as a starting point for creating short film sequences.

The optics of such cameras can also offer a way of “seeing” far removed from our everyday experience—hence my interest in multiple exposures, long exposure times, and multi-lens cameras that split or merge images, revealing a subject from several sides at once. This kind of “seeing” was also present in the experiments of chronophotography pioneers. While they were aiming to capture still images, their work already contained the seeds of cinema.

Inspired by these experiments, and by the fact that pinhole cameras are easy to build and allow for great freedom in shaping image parameters, I began using them to create short sequences—either frame-by-frame or in the spirit of a “slice-time” effect.

A lifelong practice in analogue photography and queer activism. Dutch photographer Rick Burger takes a deep dive into his ongoing social and political work. He will present his book STRENGTH — portraits of LGBTQIA+ activists from Berlin, across Europe and other continents — and share his practice in the studio and with his large-format equipment. His work embodies a fight for Love, Dignity, Visibility, Attention, Humanity, Fairness and Democracy, and stands as a living statement against homophobia.
